Heya folks! Another month, another struggle to remember what the hell I did all month. That’s right, it’s time for another Milkboy Monthly! (not to be mistaken for the Juicegirl Weekly, we are not affiliated). This month I’ll be talking about the amazing Lesbian Vampire Jam, The Power Rangers inspired Flipside (again), and I’ll be giving an in depth look at Anam Chara: Branching Time a game about exploring the different lives of the same adventurers across a broken and branching timeline.

As some of you may know, this month I ran the “Lesbian Vampire Jam”over on Itch. It’s pretty self explanatory, a jam about making things with Lesbian Vampires. It went pretty well! Some great stuff was submitted by some very talented people! I ran this jam with the idea that I’d send the best submission a free physical copy of Let Me Be Your Thrall, kind of a practice run at shipping things before I open up an online shop for physical products. I still haven’t decided a winner yet, and deciding is going to be very difficult! However y’all should still go check out the jam submissions and give these games some love! I also streamed all of them on twitch which you can go watch if you’re into that.

“But Maddie, you talked about this in your last monthly newsletter!” I know I know, dear reader who reads the whole newsletter every month and doesn’t just click the email and immediately goes back to look at other emails. However, I think Flipside is really cool and you should help make it even cooler by signing up to get the playtest materials! Just a reminder for those who have forgot, or anyone who is new to the Milkboy Monthly, Flipside is a game that is inspired by Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, and other similar media. You play a group of heroes who are saving the world from monsters, aliens, or robots while also trying to keep your social life in tact. The gimmick is that your character sheet is double sided, you have to flip it to transform and access the powers and abilities on the other side. However, in doing so, you lose access to the thing you could do on the side you flipped from. It’s fun!

I gave y’all a little glimpse at the idea of Project Anam Chara before, but now it has an official title! Anam Chara: Branching Time is what the kids these days are calling “GM-full”, meaning everyone has a role to play in creating the world and the story. It is also diceless, in fact, there are no random mechanics whatsoever. You use two types of currency you get from playing the game to overcome challenges, alter the world, and grow your character. (If you are familiar with Fate Core’s fate points, Fabula Ultima’s fabula and ultima points, or the main gameplay of Belonging Outside Belonging; it’s a little bit like that.) Through your adventures you discover new points in this branching timeline to gain the power to remember how all of this started. So far Anam Chara: Branching Time is fleshing out nicely, and I think has the potential to be a truly unique and fun experience! So far our initial draft is around 90% complete I’d say, so once that’s done I’ll open it up to playtesting as well.

There’s definitely some exciting things on the way! I am going to end this off with a request from any artists looking to get into TTRPGs. I have some games stuck in limbo while I try to make art assets for them, and it is a slow process. Therefore, Milkboy games is looking for an artist. I will be 100% upfront here, I can not pay commission or contractor rates. I’m just a minimum wage worker trying to be creative. However, this is not a request for a contract artist, this is a request for a creative partner. This means any and all revenue we make from games will be split 50/50. On top of that you will have not only complete creative freedom, but also a say in what kinds of games we make. You will be as much a part of Milkboy Games as I am.
